Upon arriving in Edinburgh, make your way to your selected hotel. Once you've settled in, dive into the historic allure of Scotland's capital. Stroll down the iconic Royal Mile, with its cobblestone paths leading up to the formidable Edinburgh Castle, dramatically perched on a volcanic crag. Delve into Edinburgh's vibrant arts scene, which boasts an array of lively galleries and theatres. For food lovers, the bustling local markets are a culinary playground, offering a fusion of traditional and modern Scottish flavours. Make sure to visit the regal Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament building, which together illustrate the city's beautiful blend of historical and modern elements.

Day 2 – The Royal Scotsman

Embark from Edinburgh Waverley station and immerse yourself in luxury aboard the Royal Scotsman. As you travel west, pass through Falkirk, the old shipbuilding centres of Glasgow, and Dumbarton. At Craigendoran, you'll begin your journey on the picturesque West Highland Line, enjoying afternoon tea with stunning views of Gare Loch and Loch Long. The journey north continues past Crianlarich and the wilds of Rannoch Moor. Dine on fine Scottish cuisine featuring local specialties like wild salmon and Aberdeen Angus beef, and conclude your evening with vibrant entertainment in the Observation Car.

Travel through Fort William, capturing breathtaking views of Ben Nevis. As you skirt Loch Eil and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, alight at Arisaig for a stroll along the Silver Sands of Morar. Return to Fort William and explore Glenfinnan with a local guide. Opt for a guided hike through Nevis Gorge to the impressive Steall Waterfall if you're feeling adventurous. End your day with dinner and entertainment as you head to the quaint village of Bridge of Orchy.

Depart Bridge of Orchy for Glasgow, soaking in the dramatic scenery of Loch Lomond before heading west beside the Clyde. Take a ferry from Wemyss Bay to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. Discover Mount Stuart, a Victorian Gothic masterpiece with lavish interiors and a vast collection of family portraits. After touring the house and grounds, enjoy afternoon tea before returning to the train for dinner as you travel to Kilmarnock for the night.

After leaving Kilmarnock, enjoy breakfast as you head east towards Edinburgh. Explore the Royal Yacht Britannia or the city itself. Later, travel north through Perthshire's rolling hills to the Scottish Highlands. Arrive at Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway, where you'll spend the evening enjoying dinner and entertainment surrounded by the tranquil Cairngorms.

Day 6 - Rothiemurchus Estate

Rothiemurchus Estate

Journey to the Rothiemurchus Estate near the small skiing resort of Aviemore for a morning of activities like clay pigeon-shooting or a guided estate tour. After lunch, head to Inverness to visit the historic Culloden Battlefield. Travel east to the town of Keith for an evening visit to Strathisla Distillery, one of the oldest working whisky distilleries in the Highlands. Enjoy a gala dinner and traditional Scottish music as you head south through the beautiful Scottish landscape.

Day 7 – Crossing the Forth Bridge

Crossing the Forth Bridge

Enjoy your final breakfast aboard as you leave Dundee and traverse the former Kingdom of Fife. Cross the iconic Forth Railway Bridge back into Edinburgh, where your unforgettable journey aboard the Royal Scotsman concludes.

Once disembarked, a private transfer will take you from the station to your chosen hotel. The remainder of the day is free to further explore this wonderful historic city.

Homeward bound

Day 8 – Homeward bound

Your luxury tour ends today and, as you return home, you can cherish the unforgettable memories of your fabulous journey around Scotland.
